State revenue office
The state body that collects stamp duty, land tax, and processes property transfers.
Each Australian state and territory has its own revenue office (Revenue NSW, State Revenue Office Victoria, QLD Revenue Office, RevenueSA, RevenueWA, State Revenue Office Tasmania, ACT Revenue Office, Territory Revenue Office NT) responsible for collecting state taxes - chiefly stamp duty, land tax, payroll tax, and the various surcharges. Property buyers (or their solicitor or conveyancer) lodge duty assessment forms with the state revenue office shortly after exchanging contracts, and the office issues the assessment. For property investors, the state revenue office's website is the authoritative source for current rates and thresholds - never quote training-data tax numbers, always check the live site, because rates change each state budget cycle (typically 1 July).
